Many of you might be familiar with apple cider as a popular kitchen staple but you’d be surprise at the number of health and beauty benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar.
1. Natural Toner
Because of the acidity level in Apple Cider Vinegar, this makes a great toner that can help regulate the PH level of your skin and also help clear away acne scars and pimples. As a toner, use a 1:1 ratio of water and apple cider vinegar and sweep over the face gently with a cotton ball. This will help clear away any residue and regulate the PH level of your skin by helping you to stay in the “in-between” not too oily and not too dry. Keep in mind that we all have different skin and skin sensitivity, so use a ratio of each water and ACV to your preference. For instance, if a 1:1 ratio is too strong, dilute the ACV in more water, if you need a little more action, add more ACV. I’ve used ACV as a toner from time to time and I do like it but the only thing I dread is the smell! Its awful, in my opinion. I prefer to use this toner at the end of the day because I wouldnt want to go around smelling like ACV and have people thinking I’ve got some kind of bad hygiene! At the end of the day I’m all for DIY home remedies as long as it gets the job done.
2. Banish Bad Breath
Bad breath can be caused by certain foods, oral disease, or health conditions. ACV is known as a long time folk remedy that can help ease bad breath. I know, the fact that the smell of ACV is awful, who would have thought it could cure bad breath? It had never crossed my mind to use ACV to banish bad breath because of the awful smell, but hey sometimes life throws some shocking news at you. Consuming one tablespoon after meals has been said to help control bad breath. According to Livestrong.com mixing 1/2 tablespoon ACV with a cup of water and gurgling it as a mouth wash for about 10 seconds and then rinse can help control bad breath.
3. Detox Your Body
ACV is rich in minerals and enzymes. Mixing one table-spoon diluted in a glass of water can help speed up metabolism and break down cholesterol. Mix one tablespoon diluted in a glass of water along with one tablespoon of lemon juice and add honey to your preference for taste purposes. I diluted 1 tablespoon of ACV with 8 oz water and to my finding, found it was still a little too strong for me, so I added a little more water to dilute the taste of the ACV. The lemon and honey helped to give it some taste. I felt like I was just drinking a lemon iced tea except it was a tint stronger. Overall, the taste is bearable and I wouldn’t mind doing this detox recipe every once in a while to detox. Its been said that this detox drink is also good for those who is trying to lose weight as well, but me being super skinny I havent tried it for that purpose and don’t plan to, but that is just another great benefit of ACV for you to know!
4. Skin Whitening
Now, during a time when I was really conscious and aware of the flat mole on my face and was determined to get rid of it naturally using home remedies, I came across ACV being used as a dark spot lightner. Because ACV is very acidic it has the ability to purify and exfoliate, which are two of some of the important steps to skin lightning. I decided to give this a try, and let me say, it works but it is so time-consuming that I’ve learned to accept my flat mole. For about a week and a half I would soak a Q-tip in ACV and dab it directly onto just the mole and sleep with it overnight. Other times I soaked a small piece of cotton and taped it on to the mole and slept with it over night and washed it off in the morning. However, It did lighten my dark spots dramatically but was very irritating to my skin as well, and of course this is part of the healing process. I walked around with red marks but good thing the semester was over and I was out of school for the time being. The redness of course went away but it took about a week and a half as well. So if you think about it, this lightening process was about 2-3 weeks long. Now if you have the time and do not mind the healing process, oh and of course, the SMELL, go on ahead and try this lighting remedy at your own risk. I found it less irritating to the skin to use it as a toner by mixing equal parts of ACV and water and sweeping it over my face with a cotton ball. With that being said, I’ll continue to use it as a toner and let my skin lighten over time without all the red madness! Keep in mind that once you stop doing this ACV skin whitening remedy, your dark spots are bound to come back. Once it has lighten to your preference you might want to invest in some screen for protecting against the sun from darkening any dark spots and be consistent with exfoliation and using skin whiteners.
